The Vanemuise Dance- and Balletschool was established in 1994 as a balletstudio at the theatre Vanemuine, so that the school of nowadays is a natural sequel of the studio.
At the beginning there was only one large class of 24 students. Because of a large number of interested people the school began to expand. During the years the amount of students was permanently growing and in January 2001 the school became a non-profit organisation, independent of the theatre. The financial costs were covered by fonds and sponsors and so it is till today.
In 2002 few classes espescially for kids were opened. Two years later there were 70 children studying at school. Since that time the amount of students has grown, already two classes have graduated from our school successfully and new ballet-interested children are constantly coming to join it.
The head of the Vanemuise Dance- and Balletschool from its foundation is the Estonian well- known principal ballet dancer Elena Poznjak-Kõlar.
